Chronically Ch(ILL) Session 6 | Sunday 27 April 2025 6-7:30pm
This session is an invitation to take part in a guided writing exercise exploring the therapeutic tool of Pendulation. We will gently welcome emotion, sensation and memory, using the page to describe and hold a moment of distress or discomfort. We will then shift our attention to something that brings us ease or neutrality. This fluid movement between internal states can aid in the regulation of our nervous systems, and help us shift out of cycles of rumination.
Trauma Recovery Writing Group #1 | April 2024 Tuesdays 6-7:30pm
As writers who have experienced trauma, we often struggle to find spaces that create a safe environment in which to disclose and discuss themes of trauma in our work. We are often told our writing is too ‘dark’ and ‘depressing’ and advised to water-down our experiences to make them more palatable, understandable, or focused on eliciting empathy from those who don’t share our experiences. It becomes essential to find a space where we can feel confident to share our authentic selves, talk openly about difficult themes in our work, and discuss ways we have utilised writing to aid in our recovery.
Write Your Self: An Evening of Writing, Connection and Community with Katie Watson | Saturday 23rd March 2024 6-8pm
After a difficult, overwhelming or traumatic experience, we can be left feeling powerless, without voice, language or agency. For those of us with a history of trauma, writing can be a valuable catalyst for healing and recovery.
Writers often tell me (Katie Watson) how fundamental it is to find community and connection when developing a therapeutic writing practice. Being witnessed and held by our peers can be as transformative and healing as the writing itself, which is precisely why the Write Your Self methodology is designed for group settings.
In this new event, we’re bringing together writers who have completed a short workshop, masterclass, or a longer programme with me, alongside those who are newly curious about the concept of therapeutic writing, to join us for an evening of writing, connection and community.
Trans Writing Group #4 | March 2024 Sundays 7-8.30pm
As trans* writers, we often find our writing narratively limited or misunderstood in traditional writing spaces. We regularly become gender educators rather than equal participants, experience transphobia in environments that are supposed to be trans-inclusive and find our additional accessibility requirements go unmet. It becomes essential to find a space where our work and identity will be seen as it is in order to access the benefits of a writing group.
These themed writing groups provide a dedicated space for you to make progress on your writing and develop personal connections with other writers. In small groups of eight, you will have a chance to discuss the world of writing, share things about your project, and socialise with those with a shared interest.
